Crafting:   Silver Chain Link Jewellery

"I was born in Mundubbera, QLD and have lived almost all my life in the Mundubbera/Eidsvold district. I am heavily involved in outdoor work on the family cattle property, mustering and being involved in management beside my husband, son and daughter-in-law. Book-keeping for the business is another activity associated with the property. Sport activities include competing in campdrafts and playing golf.

After the accidental attendance of a Silversmithing Workshop, I was drawn instantly to jewellery making. To further my knowledge in this field, I attended more workshops and collected endless information through other avenues and also learnt so much through my own experimenting.

My passion is designing original chain/bracelet patterns, which, when purchased, are treasured by the owner. It is the unexpected outcome of what can be created from precious metal and its texture that continues to provide inspiration for my work. I am always eager to learn and striving to imporve my skills to share with others who find my work appealing. In return, I aim for my students to become creative and develop their own personal skills and hope they too will have the desire to learn more of this craft. I pride myself in creating necklace and bracelet designs that cannot be purchased in jewellery stores.

Living all my life on the land, I have a rapport and love of the bush way, which is reflected in my work. I also design and make charms that depict subjects of bush life and tasks. Based on the Australiana theme, some charms that I make are windmills, whips, horseshoes, stirrups as well as other free hand designs. Property brands and commission work is another outlet to my silver and gold activities.

Initially starting my smithing activities as a hobby, it has grown to supplying to private customers, country ladies and campdraft competitors, various galleries and in recent times, I have ventured into tutoring.

A range of my work is currently on display and for sale at the RM Williams Australian Bush Learning Centre."
